How the Journey Began

Qi Yoga began as Dawnelle Arthur created Seasons Mind and Body Fitness which opened its doors on March 1st, 2006 as a small yoga studio and eventually expanded into a studio that included an indoor cycling program which evolved into QiCycle.  In June of 2006 Seasons Mind Body Fitness became the very first QiCycle-Yoga studio in Denver, Colorado. QiCycle is Denver's indoor unique cycling program which brings yoga into the class. It is taught like no other indoor cycling programs.

On August 1st, 2008, Seasons Mind and Body Fitness merged with Qi Downtown Athletic Club becoming Qi Downtown Athletic Club and QiCycle-Yoga Studios.  On August 1st, 2009, Dawnelle opened Qi Yoga City Park, a power yoga studio with a class schedule that serves all styles of yoga including; Qi yoga, anusara,  and restorative yoga.  On May 1st, 2010, Dawnelle opened Qi Edgewater Yoga Studio; a power yoga studio, which hosts teacher training graduates and offers this community a variety of yoga classes.

Workshops

Shoulder Prehab with Orench Lagman

Date: Sunday, March 18th, 2012 : : 1pm-4pm

Where: Qi Downtown

Cost: $50

Date: 3/18 Time: 1-4 Cost: $50 Do you have that awkward pinch on the side of your neck when you bring your hands above your head? Does the old "rotator cuff" surgery you received five years ago still prevent you from engaging in various exercises? Is "shoulder blades together on your spine" a term you've heard a lot but never been able to feel?

If you've answered yes to any of these questions, or if you're just looking to enhance your fitness regimen and reduce the risk of shoulder injury, this workshop is for you.

Shoulder Pre-habilitation is an exercise routine designed to bring balance, increased range of motion and strength to the shoulder girdle in order to prevent or recover from injury. Originally designed for competitive gymnasts, James Morse and Orench Lagman have evolved the program to benefit everyone at all levels of yoga, Qifit, Qi Adult Gymnastics and other athletics.

What you will gain from this three hour workshop:

Understanding of the anatomy of the shoulder joint and the four rotator cuff muscles, what causes shoulder problems and how shoulder pre-hab addresses these issues

Practical application of all shoulder pre-hab exercises including a handout to help develop your personal practice at home or at the gym.

Supplemental Qi Gong exercises to help link breath to movement of all joints

"Two months ago, my shoulder injury prevented me from doing chaturanga, push-ups, mountain climbers, or otherwise moving while there was weight on my shoulder. I was modifying every workout. After about 7 shoulder prehab classes with James Morse and Orench Lagman, my shoulders are stronger than ever. I don't need to modify anything, and I just added forearm balance (unsupported) to my yoga practice. Maybe you're wrong, maybe you don't need surgery, and maybe that injury isn't forever." - Melina

Qi Vinyasa Yoga™

Streetlights along a road at night

Qi (chee) means life force, or the spiritual energy of all things; Vital Energy. It is frequently translated as "energy flow" and often compared to the yogic notion of prana which is a sanskrit term meaning breath.. A literal translation is "air", "breath", or "spirit".

Dawnelle's philosophy of fitness is an approach to living the best life you can. You cannot accomplish what is important in life if you are physically and mentally imbalanced. Qi Vinyasa Yoga™ is a highly effective method of Vinyasa practice, that helps to define the physical body; by increasing strength, power, and flexibility while clearing toxins out of the body. By linking the breath to the movement we allow students to experience a release in toxins. The practice removes impurities and strengthens the functions of the body and mind.

Dawnelle's Training

As one of Denver’s premier yoga instructors, Dawnelle Arthur combines her knowledge of anatomy & physiology with a profound understanding of the heart of yoga to create an invigorating practice that benefits the entire body, mind and soul.  Dawnelle graduated from the Iowa State University with a degree in Exercise Physiology, and her love of fitness has been a lifelong affair.
After graduating from the University, Dawnelle moved from Denver, CO to Anchorage, AK in 2000, where she became the Fitness Director of the Alaska Clubs. In 2003, she moved to San Diego, CA and it was there that she truly began her yoga journey. In May of 2003, she completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training program in Eclectic Hatha Yoga from the Institute of Progressive Therapies in San Diego. Upon return to Denver, CO, Dawnelle completed a 200 hour teacher training in Power Yoga from CorePower Yoga - Denver in July of 2004. That was followed by another 200 hour teacher training in Hot Yoga from CorePower Yoga in October of that year. With 20 years experience in the fitness industry, Dawnelle’s credentials are impressive to say the least.
She has been a senior instructor at CorePower Yoga since 2004 and has played an integral role in the development of the Yoga Sculpt Teacher Training Program from its inception through today. In 2006, she joined forces with YogaDownload.com and remains one of their top downloaded and highly praised senior instructors. Dawnelle was honored by Lululemon by being chosen to be one of their Denver based ambassador’s and has led Yoga Sculpt teacher trainings for CorePower Yoga in Denver, Boulder, and Minnesota from 2005 to 2009.
Dawnelle has worked with many master teachers; Shiva Rae, Seane Corn, Rusty Wells, Baron Baptiste, John Friend, Janet Stone and Ana Forest to name a few. And while each of these mentors have influenced her practice, Dawnelle has developed a practice and teaching style that is uniquely hers. Her practice and teaching style is a special blessing to the Denver community.
March 1st, 2006 Dawnelle realized one of her lifelong goals by opening Seasons Mind and Body Fitness, Denver’s first QiCycle-Yoga studio. Her goal was to create a unique place where students could come to experience all the components of fitness in one hour. Through the development of her QiCycle-Yoga program, Dawnelle provided the Denver community with a place where students are able to increase strength, enhance flexibility, improve body composition, and develop a deeper mind and body connection.
On August 1st, 2008, Dawnelle took her successful business to the next level by merging with Qi Athletic Club. The merger has provided multiple locations for clients to broaden their yoga, QiCycle-Yoga and yoga sculpt practice, and has also allowed students additional opportunities to create a deeper mind body connection. In the fall of 2009, Dawnelle continued her efforts to create a healthier Denver by mentoring and developing new teachers through the creation of QiCycle-Yoga and Qi Yoga Teacher Trainings. 2010 brought the addition of QiCycle-Barre which consists of barre work, involving precision movements performed with the help of a stationary barre attached to the wall in the yoga studio. It fuses cardio, strength, flexibility, toning, and sculpting into one 60-minute workout. Dawnelle dare's your dancer’s body to emerge with this incredible new creation!
Today there are four locations around the Denver metro area in which students are able to explore the Qi experiences. Dawnelle is constantly striving to push the boundaries of what is possible and looking for new ways to enhance the lives of the yoga students who cross her path. Hers is a practice that encourages cultivation of patience, pushing past the boundaries of the mind, and ultimately shocking the body and the mind with the infinite possibilities of the human body.
